History of Mount Pilot Drug
Mount Pilot Drug was incorporated in February, 1995. During 1994, Revco Drug Stores had purchased Surry Drug from Joe D. Stone of Pilot Mountain, NC. Joe grew up in Dobson, NC and had a very successful business. Randy Lawson was the Pharmacist-Manager at the Pilot Mountain Revco where two of Joe's employees were assigned after the buyout. Leonard Goins and Sarah Key found that Chain Drug Stores were very different than the atmosphere had been at Surry Drug. Randy was beginning to tire of Corporate Politics and regulations, also. Just before Christmas 1994, the three of them sat down at the Lawsons' kitchen table to discuss the possibility of opening a new independent pharmacy in the community. Working each and every spare moment, the Lawson, Goins, and Key families moved quickly to make a dream of service-oriented business ownership come true. On April 12, 1995, Mount Pilot Drug opened and served its first customer. After becoming grandparents, Leonard and Sarah retired in 2005. Randy and Julie continue to operate Mount Pilot Drug; focusing on prompt, professional prescription services.
